The r/c vehicles I've had in my stable over time include hobby 1/10th scale
vehicles from Tamiya, Traxxas, etc. including toy brands from Nikko to Radio
Shack to New Bright, Mattel - Tyco, etc. These range in size as large
as 1/6 down to 1/64. Right now I'm collecting mostly 1/16 and 1/18 low
cost r/c for driveway bashing and some indoor running.
There's usually two major types of r/c
control systems out there: pulse and digital proportional. You
almost always should look for digital proportional because
this will give you full control over steering and forward/reverse.
This means if you slightly turn the wheel on the controller it will turn
your front wheels slightly and not all the way to the left or right so you
can take tight turns or wide turns, ease on the throttle or floor it when
needed. Also, most of the digital proportional r/c will allow you
to fine tune your steering and throttle directly from the controller.
While I prefer digital proportional r/c, I'll
take the standard ones as long as they allow me good control over the
vehicle such as quick steering response and good throttle control.
Remember that the main thing is to have fun with any hobby!
