The Radio Control Section

The r/c vehicles I've had in my stable over time include hobby 1/10th scale vehicles from Tamiya, Traxxas, etc. including toy brands from Nikko to Radio Shack to New Bright, Mattel - Tyco, etc.  These range in size as large as 1/6 down to 1/64.  Right now I'm collecting mostly 1/16 and 1/18 low cost r/c for driveway bashing and some indoor running.

There's usually two major types of r/c control systems out there:  pulse and digital proportional.  You almost always should look for digital proportional because this will give you full control over steering and forward/reverse.  This means if you slightly turn the wheel on the controller it will turn your front wheels slightly and not all the way to the left or right so you can take tight turns or wide turns, ease on the throttle or floor it when needed.  Also, most of the digital proportional r/c will allow you to fine tune your steering and throttle directly from the controller.

While I prefer digital proportional r/c, I'll take the standard ones as long as they allow me good control over the vehicle such as quick steering response and good throttle control.  Remember that the main thing is to have fun with any hobby!

1/16 Vehicle Coming Soon....2010 Release

This will be my first r/c review for this website and give you something to read.  While it won't be as in-depth as some with video, top speed, etc.  I will cover the basics and if it is worth the price paid.  I don't think any other website has done this vehicle yet so I hope to get it up here as soon as I can once the vehicle arrives.  It was bought personally without any sponsors so it will be my own opinion on the price.  I have my own personal review for this vehicle posted on its own page.

1/18 Nikko Pro Class Vehicles

A nice overall package featuring a 6volt battery pack, detailed plastic body and digital proportional steering and throttle.  Also, you can interchange crystals on 27mhz.  A great overall RTR package.  Nice cars to run in a small area but just have to watch for uneven pavement.

Ultra Fast Universal RC Charger by Radio Shack

NOTE:  I'm pretty sure this charger has been discontinued but might still be around in stores and other markets.

Since many are going to battery packs for their r/c vehicles that don't use a plug, it is harder to use the hobby grade quick chargers so after a tip I found on an r/c related forum, I picked up this fast charger from Radio Shack and it is well worth the price since you can charge a variety of packs.  A great feature is you can charge both types of packs:  the newer types that come without plugs and the standard types with plugs.  The photo shows it in an off-white type color but mine came in black from my local store.

Model - 2300433  Catalog #23-433

  • Charges most Ni-Cd and Ni-MH 7.2V, 9.6V, 6.0V RC batteries
  • Ultra fast charging times on all RC packs
  • LED charging indicator light
  • Safety timer prevents over charging
